The show
A mythological Euphoria, minus the mocking, plus the hero's catharsis, with the more-human-than-human existentialism of Blade Runner. Through the eyes of the construct, we are set free to deconstruct ourselves.
Why now
Season one
Character-driven and complete in one season, with room to expand into a plot-driven saga and the horrors of the Dollhouse.
Characters
Much like Stranger Things or Harry Potter, Olga’s role is set to be a discovery talent. Comp: Tom (Thomasin McKenzie) – Leave No Trace (2018).
Mint is also an opportunity for a discovery; the reference/comp is Sunny Suljic in Mid90s.
Inspired by Idris Elba and played brilliantly by Olivier Huband in the proof-of-concept short film Olga.
Story engines: blocked becoming · survivor father · arrested development · the monster within · found family
Style, pace, mood
A melancholic fantasy of becoming, where past choices drag like luggage and growth leaves permanent scars. Literally. Palettes are bleached, like in the TV show Dark. The camera movements are few and subtle, calculated and cold, just like Olga in the Skinheim. Some episodes run fast; some hold sparse beats while the stakes stay high. There are no low-stakes episodes.
Franchise potential
A world built to be collected. It all started with a toymaker, its deepest secret is a vault of a thousand soul-infused dolls, and its hero stitches her own creatures. Fans don't just watch this world; they can hold it.
